Born from genuine passion for Irish dance, every design is informed by what dancers actually need — from first lessons to world stages.
Ahearne Shamrock Grips was born from a single idea by a former Irish dancer who understood exactly what was missing — a grip sock designed specifically for the unique demands of Irish dance.
Always passionate about helping every dancer succeed, we provide exceptional quality and outstanding customer care — whether you're stepping onto the floor for the first time, or competing at national level.
Every pair is crafted to give you the confidence to dance your very best.
That's our promise.
Always wash inside out to protect both crystal embellishments and the grip sole from abrasion.
A gentle cool cycle preserves grip integrity and keeps crystals bonded securely through repeated washes.
Lay flat or hang to air dry. Avoid tumble drying to maintain shape, grip, and sparkle performance after performance.
Everything you need to know about Irish dance grip socks — written by a former dancer, for dancers and the parents of dancers.
Irish dance grip socks are specialist performance socks designed to keep a dancer's foot locked securely inside their soft shoes — ghillies, pumps, reel shoes. Unlike everyday cotton socks, the sole of a grip sock is patterned with silicone or rubber dots that prevent the foot sliding inside the shoe during quick turns, jumps and treble jigs.
Every Ahearne pair carries a distinctive shamrock-patterned grip sole — each dot a tiny shamrock, a small mark of pride that mirrors the dance form itself. The result is sharper footwork, cleaner lines, and noticeably better balance.
Soft shoes are deliberately loose-fitting to allow the foot to articulate through reels and slip jigs. That same looseness becomes a problem under competition pressure — feet slide forward into the toe, ankles roll on landings, the dancer compensates by gripping with their toes and loses both energy and elegance.
A well-fitted grip sock solves this with stability, precision, confidence, and protection of the leather lining of expensive ghillies. They're now standard kit in almost every serious dancer's feis bag.
The choice comes down to when and where they'll be worn. Our classic Shamrock GRIPS is built for daily class and warm-up — discreet, hardwearing, focused on function. Shamrock SPARKLERS adds a vertical column of crystal embellishments for feiseanna and Oireachtas-level events where the judges' eye lingers below the hem. Shamrock SUPREME covers the entire cuff in dense crystal embellishment for dancers who want full presence under the spotlight.
Properly cared for, a pair of Ahearne grip socks should serve through an entire competition season. Three simple rules: wash inside out on a cool cycle (30°C or below), never tumble dry — lay flat or hang to air dry, and store flat rather than balled up in your feis bag to preserve the cuff elastic.
Crystal embellishments are heat-bonded with competition-grade adhesive rated for repeated wash cycles, so they survive the same routine without losing their sparkle.
Our Irish dance socks follow standard UK shoe sizing. Size XS fits UK junior 8–11, Size S fits UK 11–2, Size M covers the junior-to-adult crossover from UK 2–5, and Size L fits adult UK 6 and above. If you're between sizes, size up — the cuff has comfortable stretch and a slightly looser sock is easier to slide into competition ghillies than a tight one.
